Adult only group Friday 31st March - Friday 7th April 2017
Group 1 Tuesday 4th April - Tuesday 11th April 2017
Group 2 Friday 7th April - Friday 14th April 2017
On Wednesday 11th January the Three Villages Medical Centre have agreed to come into school at 3pm to administer yellow fever for students who require it. (Please note that not all GP surgeries are able to administer yellow fever). The cost of the vaccination will be at a reduced rate of £50. (Students who had this vaccination last year will not require one)
If you wish for your son/daughter to have the vaccination on this day, please complete and return the attached form and the slip at the foot of this letter in the envelope provided with a £10 deposit (cash only) by Wednesday 16th November. If you wish to pay the full amount of £50 in one go please make cheques payable to Ridgewood High School.
The balance of £40 must paid by Wednesday 7th December at the latest. (No vaccinations will be given unless the full amount has been paid).
Please speak to your GP about all other vaccinations needed. In the past some students have left this until the last minute and have had to travel to Birmingham to get the vaccinations needed, as local surgeries had run out. My advice would be to get these organised as soon as possible. Please note that year 10 students will be vaccinated for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio and Meningitis in school on 16th and 17th March 2017.
We usually arrange for Asda Pharmacy to attend the final parents meeting on Wednesday March 1st to sell malaria tablets, price (tbc). A prescription from your GP will be needed for these.
If you wish to purchase these, please ask your son/daughter to post their prescription in the secure postbox outside the finance office by Monday 6th February. Payment for these can be made on the night when tablets are collected.
All passports must be shown to Mrs Hodt by Wednesday 7th December. At this stage they will be returned to you and will be collected again at the parents meeting on Wednesday 1st March.
YELLOW FEVER CERTIFICATES
For those who are having this vaccination in school they will be collected in on the day, otherwise these must be handed in by Monday 6th February.
I have included a kit list for the trip as I am aware that some parents/carers like to plan in advance. I will go through this list at the final parents meeting on Wednesday 1st March
but could I stress at this point that students do not need to be buying new clothes. Old shorts/Tshirts are acceptable due to the nature of the work we will be doing. A copy of the kit list can be downloaded here
Equipment list of items needed for activities when we are in The Gambia available for download here
Over the next few months there will be a range of fundraising events taking place. Any support you could give to these events would be really appreciated. All money raised goes to support our 'development' work in The Gambia, and will also be used to support the activities students will be taking part in as part of Project Gambia 2017. I will ensure that information about these events are given to the students and emailed out to you.
Could I also remind you that as part of the trip students have been asked to raise £50. This money will be used while we are in The Gambia to purchase items such as painting equipment to refurbish schools, school resources, mosquito nets and solar lamps. Staff will be meeting with students in the next 2 weeks to talk to them about this.
