Baby Packs

The ‘Baby Pack’ project continues to grow and grow; who knew that so much knitting and crocheting was being done?

The project started by providing ‘baby packs’ to new mums at Sintet Health Centre. The provision of these packs saw the reduction in home deliveries and as a result reduced the infant mortality rate.

We currently distribute baby packs to the health centre at Bafuloto, a rural village located a short distance from Banjul Airport. Many of the mums do not have blankets or new clothes to wrap their newborn babies in and so often use dirty wraps. Medical staff have reported that the baby packs have helped reduce the number of babies developing sepsis and has helped regulate temperature. In the last 2 years we have provided over 400 baby packs. In 2025 we also purchased an autoclave so that Malang the midwife can begin to deliver babies. This will mean that women will no longer have to travel a distance when in labour.
