Building Schools
Many schools in The Gambia are in an extremely poor condition. Often there are over 40 children in a class. Not only are they squeezed into a small classroom but it is not uncommon for the chairs and tables to be broken.
When we visit the schools we support with groups of students classrooms are painted and decorated. We also have over the years replaced roofs, installed running water and electricity, provided tables and chairs, tiled floors and built new classrooms.
Wisdom Nursery School
When we first visited the school we found small classrooms with broken furniture and very few resources. The classrooms were in need of urgent refurbishment and with no water in the school a tap needed to be installed.
Over the past few years we have refurbished the school. The roof has been replaced, classroom floors and the front of the school have been re-tiled, doors replaced and windows put into the classrooms. A tap was installed and a canopy erected over the play area to give the children much needed shade.

St. Peter’s Nursery School
In January 2024 2 new classrooms at St Peter’s Nursery were built. When we visited in 2023 there were 88 children in one classroom being taught by one teacher. Another 50 children were also waiting to start school because the school had no space for them. The addition of these 2 classrooms has enabled this large class to be split into two and the extra 50 children have been able to start school.
Omega Primary School
Our latest project is the building of a new school for Omega. The ground floor has now been completed with 5 classrooms, toilets and offices. We are now through our ‘Buy a Brick’ campaign raising funds to complete the first floor which will cost in the region of £25000.
