Omega School
Omega School is a small school in Sinchu Sorrie, Kombo North, which is in the west coast region of The Gambia.
Established in 2015 the school’s aim is to give poorer children in the Sinchu Sorrie area an opportunity to attend school.
When we first visited the school in 2019 there were only 3 Nursery classes. Over the last few years, we have raised funds to help extend the school and build 6 more classrooms. This means that the school can now provide an education for children from Nursery 1 to Grade 6. Our thanks go to The Royal School Wolverhampton, The Rotary Club Tettenhall and The Rotary Club Stourbridge who have generously supported this project. During their visit to The Gambia in February 2023 students from The Royal School were able to paint and decorate the classrooms that they had raised money to build.
During COVID lockdown we paid teachers’ salaries and have continued to support the school through the provision of much-needed school resources and equipment from tables and chairs to reading books, school bags, textbooks, paints and pencils etc.
In September 2023 in partnership with Milking Bank Primary School Dudley, we will be launching a Junior Leadership Award at the school for students in Grade 5.
Sponsor a Child Programme
In May 2022 we launched a ‘Sponsor a Child Programme’ to support those children who are struggling to pay school fees. Sponsoring a child costs £15 a month which pays for school fees, uniforms and books. Sponsors receive photos of their sponsored child, termly reports and any letters, cards, pictures etc. which the children give us when we visit.
If you would like to sponsor a child please email Bev Hodt: bevhodt@projectgambia.org.uk
